A day at the Mint Museum

Also on my weekend, my dear friend and I spent a couple hours at the Mint Museum in NC. This was my first time live sketching. I have never gone somewhere and stood and sketched anything. There were three sketches I did on my own and then I sketched the one's Laur did in her book. You know, that was truly a lot of fun. Thanks Laur for introducing this to me too! I can't seem to stop sketching things all the time now. heheh

Here are a few of the things I took note of...

A New thing for me... Watercolors

I went out of town for the weekend to meet up with a dear friend of mine. We took a watercolor class together given by Anne Abgott. Mind you this was my first time 'design' painting much less using water colors. I was pleased with what I came out of there with. I still have to do the final touches but check this out...

Making my list and checking it twice.

No it is NOT Christmas in July at my house. I am preparing for a weekend get-a-way with my dearest friend so I have had to make a list of things to pack so that I don't forget anything. As I was sitting and thinking and writing things on the list I was also doodling this....

I just can't help but think of all the fun we are going to have even as I check and re-check my list. We will be attending Anne Abgott's Daring Color class at Cheap Joe's on Saturday and that is just the little bit of what we will be doing. It is going to be great!

EDM Challenge #1 and #2

Who said you can't doodle in the dark?

Well it wasn't me!

We spent yesterday evening without power from 10pm to 8am this morning, but I kept right on doodling anyway. (well until 2am anyway)

I decided to work on a few challenges and came up with #1 Draw your shoe. Now mind you this is just the sketch. I will be adding color to it today.

Then I thought I would go on to Challenge #2 draw a desk lamp. This is a tea lite candle desk lamp that I received from Kim when we were 'secret sisters'. There is quite a bit of detail in it but I am going to add color soon and will re-post it when I do.
I just love it with all the Sunflowers and her fall leaf angel wings. Thanks Kim!

EDM Challenge #181

Everyday Matters challenge #181 is to draw a trash or garbage can. I have a boring ole' black mesh trash can in my office and I can't stand it so I decided to invent my own. Here is the Trash can I would love to have....
I imagine it would be made from a birchwood tree stump. Embellished with twigs from my mimosa tree. It will be sturdy and decorated with my favorite things .... MICE of course.
Here is Cornflower (of Redwall) helping her son clean up for dinner.
I know I know, it isn't complete but Geesh it is 1:30am and I am tuckered out. Just as sure as the sun will rise in the morning, color will be added to this drawing.

EDM Challenge #75

Everyday Matters Challenge #75 is to draw the ingredients of and/or process of a favorite recipe ~ and journal about it.

Well funny I stumbled across this one today as I had just picked up a little book about 'being southern' and beings I am a relocated Yankee I was enjoying the read. Then I came across this illustration and just had to draw it. Well I had my sketchbook with me but no drawing pencils or even a #2 pencil so I put on my bravery hat and did it in INK. My favorite southern recipe is Biscuits and Gravy and even being a Yankee I have to admit I was taught well at making them and we eat them often.

Well without me blabbering on and on, here it is...

Happy Birthday to me

Yesterday was my 44th Birthday and I was so blessed. My children baked a cake for me and made a cute card to match. My dearest friend sent me two E-cards and I wanted so bad to preserve them in my memory (but we all know., after 40 that starts to go) so I decided to draw them each just like they appeared on the computer screen.

Here they are...

Thank you Laur for blessing me.

My Amigo

I did this lil guy to put on the wall of our cabin when my girls and I got camping with our Girl Scout troop this weekend. The theme for camp is Mexican Fiesta. We are making paper mache' cactus' and chili red peppers so I thought I would add this to the decoration as well.
I took a different approach with him. First I drew him in my sketchbook and then I used an exacto knife and cut out the sombrero and rug area and used textured paper behind those areas to give it a three D effect. I turned out kind of neat. I think.

EDC Onions

This is my first EDC post and I saw everyone doing onions so I thought I would try something new. I used 3B graphite pencil and added color with Hype highliters.

Illustration Friday ~ Sour

I really had a time with this one. For the life of me I just couldn't get the face on the fish to look like the image in my head (ever have that problem?). I finally decided just to leave well enough alone and so here it is, my IF Sour ...

J.W. Warrior just knew he had puttin the wrong bait on the hook once he saw the fishes puckered face. Instead of a live worm, he mistakenly put a sour sqwiggles gummy worm on the hook. Ohh what a sour face that fish made....

The topic is Hair...

I have been working on this piece for a couple hours now. Trying to get my proportions right. Well, after the fourth try I am just going to leave it alone.
